CALIFORNIA FOCUS / RECAP: Modern Times

Modern Times is a unique brewery located in San Diego. Brewing some of the best beers. They focus (non-monogamously) on aroma-driven, complex, flavorful, sessionish beers. They often brew hybrid styles, combining the features they like from established categories to create new, Island-Of-Doctor-Moreau-style mash-ups. We recently stopped by one of their two tap rooms to try a few beers as well as pick up some of their amazing canned cold brew coffees which are quickly becoming as popular as their beers.

The tap room is one of the most fun and original we've seen. You walk in and see a long bar with over 30 tap handles. To the left you have a coffee station and gift shop. Modern Times not only has great beverages, they're distinctive look and branding makes for some cool merchandise. The tall walls of the warehouse are something to noticed. One wall is completely covered in comic book pages and the opposing wall is an art installation made up entirely of post its! One downside to this location is parking. be ready to circle the blocks a few times but trust us, it's worth it!
